Description

The Urban Environment Administration is responsible for the city's public spaces and overall accessibility.

We work to create accessible, attractive, and vibrant urban environments and natural areas. The administration owns and manages the tram network in Gothenburg. Approximately 900 people work in the administration.

The Urban Environment Administration is part of the urban development administrations in Gothenburg City. The administrations work together to create conditions for a functioning infrastructure, quality housing and facilities, an inviting public environment, and to ensure the city's sustainability from all perspectives.

Responsibilities

Do you want to work with geodata that is visible in reality, such as in parks, on streets, and in other public environments? In the Operations and Maintenance department, GIS is a central part of how we plan, procure, monitor, and improve maintenance in the city's outdoor environments. With us, you will combine smart geodata solutions with community benefit and improve the everyday life of Gothenburg residents. The department handles data on everything from invasive species to winter road maintenance.

As a GIS Engineer in Operations and Maintenance, you will be responsible for coordinating and quality-assuring geodata. The role involves supporting the operations in daily work and assisting with analyses and map materials. You will ensure that data is current, structured, and correctly linked to the right maintenance requirements. You will develop solutions that enhance the operations and facilitate your colleagues' work. The work is done closely with other GIS engineers, maintenance orderers, business developers, and field operators, as well as with other parts of Gothenburg City.

Examples of tasks

  • Maintain geodata related to the maintenance of parks and green areas
  • Prepare materials for planning, budgeting, and follow-up
  • Design new GIS technical solutions together with the operations and GIS colleagues
  • Troubleshoot and improve geodata flows together with the operations and GIS colleagues
  • Make maintenance data accessible for internal and external parties
  • Provide technical support to the department's map users

Administration's GIS tools

  • QGIS for desktop solutions
  • PostgreSQL/PostGIS for database management
  • Geoserver and HAJK for web maps
  • FME Form and FME Flow for processing and automation

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Relevant university degree in GIS
  • Experience working with GIS and geodata
  • Good ability to express oneself in Swedish, both spoken and written

Meritorious:

  • Experience with PostgreSQL/PostGIS for storage, management, and extraction of geodata
  • Experience with FME (Form/Flow) for data processing, automation, and data flows
  • Experience working in QGIS with analysis, editing of geodata, and producing map materials
  • Experience working in a public organization and procurement
  • Education in urban planning/geography/landscape architecture

As a person, you are driven, flexible, and collaborate to achieve common goals. You have a precision that is crucial to ensure the quality of our work and actively contribute your analytical skills to solve complex problems. We see that you can build relationships and communicate effectively. To thrive in the role, you should also have a curiosity that drives you to find new solutions and perspectives.

Conditions

With us, you will work in an administration focused on development, collaboration, and diversity. We offer flexible working hours (with exceptions in certain departments), wellness benefits, and cycling perks - so you can combine an exciting job with a sustainable private life.

As an employer, we have an obligation to ensure that you have the right to reside and work in Sweden. Therefore, at a physical interview, you will need to show a passport or national ID card. Selection and interviews are ongoing, so do not wait to apply!
